This year has really gone by fast. As I write this, I know Susan and I will be leaving for China soon, and it will almost be Thanksgiving by the time we get back, and Christmas will be just around the corner.
Speaking of Christmas, the Victoria Art League is gearing up for its annual Christmas Bazaar.
Our grand opening will be from 10 a.m. to 5 p.m. Nov. 18, so make plans to come out and spend some of your day getting some of your Christmas shopping out of the way.
We will have all kinds of unique art items for sale that would make great very special gifts for that very special person.
We will have our building and gallery decorated really nice so you can shop in a beautiful environment.
There will be Christmas wreaths, ornaments, decorations, crafts, pottery, and wood, art in all kinds of mediums like pastels, watercolors, scratchboard, drawing, jewelry, sculpture, oils and more.
I would suggest you come to our opening so you can have first pick of all we will have available. If you are not able to come, the bazaar will continue through Dec. 23. We are open from 1 to 5 p.m. Tuesday through Saturday at 905 S. Bridge St.
The Annex Gallery created recently from our first-floor apartment will not be called the Annex Gallery in the future, but will now be renamed the Jim and Judy Feig Gallery in honor of the many contributions the Feigs have made to the Victoria Art League for many years.
Will Armstrong will be featured in the Feig Gallery this month with his creations in wood sculptures and other wood creations.
Our former mayor has entered his work and been recognized for his work in our Adult Art Shows in the past few years. His show will take place about the same time as the Christmas Bazaar, so when you come to see one, be sure to check out the other.
Our 50 artists in 50 weeks displays will continue in the center of our gallery along with the bazaar. I know it is hard to get out every week to see the artist featured that week, but come when you can.
We have discovered some local artists creating some interesting art with our 50/50 shows.
Katie Kaufman's show ended Saturday. Next up will be Mary Smith, Nov. 7-11. Cheryll Johnson will follow, Nov. 14-18, followed by Ryanne Hawes, Nov. 21-25. Angel Malette will complete the month from Nov. 28 through Dec. 2.
Our classes are still ongoing with oil painting by Michael Windberg from 6 to 9 p.m. Mondays.
He works with each person individually so you can join his class at any time. Ask him about an afternoon class if that will work better for you, and maybe he can get one started.
You can contact him at 361-649-2833 or firstname.lastname@example.org.
Sierra Wilson continues to teach children and youth classes.
To find out the type of classes she is teaching and the times, contact her at victoriaartsforkids.weebly.com.
Jim Feig is teaching classes this month, which are already in progress. He does not plan to start another class this month, but you can check with him as to when he plans to start a beginners or an advanced class. Call him at 361-649-8738.
Painting the Town continues to be a favorite art experience for many.
Contact Eunice Collins at 361-576-4043 to learn more about her social painting classes where everyone takes home a painting.
We will not have our monthly meeting in November but will feature the artwork of Peggy Yandell, Stacey Weaver and Sharon Smith, the artists who design the artwork for Painting the Town as our Artists of the Month.
The weather has been absolutely beautiful so make the trip to the league building and get out and "smell the roses."
Bill Bauer is the president of the Victoria Art League.
