State Rep. Geanie W. Morrison announced Monday she plans to seek the Republican nomination for re-election.
"It's been an honor to serve House District 30 for nearly 20 years," said Morrison in a written statement. As of Monday night, she had not completed the filing process, according to the Texas Secretary of State website.
Morrison, who serves Victoria, Refugio, Goliad, Calhoun, DeWitt and Aransas counties, said she will continue to make recovering from Hurricane Harvey a priority.
Since the hurricane, she has worked with the Governor's Commission to Rebuild Texas and elected officials at the local, state and federal levels, she said.
"Our area was dealt a serious blow by Hurricane Harvey," she said. "The recovery effort for many is just beginning, but the compassion and determination of the people in our area has been inspiring."
During the 85th legislative session, Morrison served as chair of the House Transportation Committee and as a member of the Higher Education Committee and the Select Committee on Texas Ports, Innovation and Infrastructure.
