Volleyball players honored

Goliad's Amaya Brown, Kaci Holtz and Kelly Thomas were named to the Texas Girls Coaches Association All-State volleyball team Wednesday.

The Tigerettes defeated Callisburg in four sets to win their second straight Class 3A state title.

Brown was named the most valuable player of the state title game.

It was Goliad's third straight appearance at the state tournament.

The Tigerettes, who finished the season with a 35-9 record, are now 5-1 overall at the state tournament.

Industrial's Savhannah Kitchens and Chloe Darilek were also named to the all-state team in Class 3A.

The Lady Cobras finished with a 32-4 record before reaching the Class 3A regional final.

In Class 2A, Shiner's Bailey Machacek was named to the All-State team.

Machacek helped lead the Lady Comanches to the regional quarterfinals.
