Crossroads residents who would like to celebrate the holiday season are invited to Christmas on Grand in Yoakum.

The event begins Friday evening with a lighted parade on Grand Avenue, followed by a showing of the Christmas movie "Elf" at Railroad Park on Front Street, said Bill Lopez, president of the Yoakum Area Chamber of Commerce.

"We'll distribute goody bags for the children, and there will be hot chocolate and popcorn at the movie," Lopez said.

Those who attend the outdoor movie are asked to bring their own lawn chairs and blankets.

Saturday morning, festivities will continue with the Reindeer Run 5K. The event will begin at the intersection of West Grand and Lott Street.

A Chili Appreciation Society International, or CASI, chili contest will be held.

"They come from all over to compete in the chili contest," Lopez said.

Cook-offs in chili, dessert and beans will also be held.

Live music and a DJ will be provided throughout the day, along with games and food and craft vendors, Lopez said.

A Christmas Train for children will also make its way downtown, and Santa Claus will be available to take photos with kids, he said.

All events will take place on Grand Avenue in downtown Yoakum.
