Although sale results were a bit low, Calhoun County Fair Junior Livestock Show officials say luck helped the show after Harvey and everything the county endured in the past two months.

The overall total for the 2017 livestock auction was $309,227.34, which consists of the auction total of $217,600 plus the add-ons of $91.627.34. Add-ons provide an opportunity for businesses or individuals to support an exhibitor if they do not want to purchase the animal during the live auction.

This year's auction was down 6-percent from last year but the number of 130 exhibitors was consistent for 2016 and 2017, said Alison King, auction organizer.

"We are just very lucky that despite the past few months, we have businesses and supporters who continuously show their support for the youth exhibitors regardless of the circumstances," King said.
