UHV soccer season pushed back

Sept. 6, 2017 at 10:21 p.m.

UHV's men's and women's soccer season openers have been pushed back to Friday, Sept. 15, due to the aftermath of Hurricane Harvey.

The Jaguars, who were to open the season at home on Sept. 2, will now start their season on the road in Oklahoma when they face Mid-America Christian. The women take to the pitch at 2 p.m., with the men following at 4 p.m.

The Jaguars will then face off against Oklahoma City University on Sunday, Sept. 17, with the women taking the field at noon and the men at 2 p.m. The OCU men are currently receiving votes in the latest NAIA Men's Soccer Coaches' top 25 Poll.

The threat of Hurricane Harvey closed the school on Aug. 31 and the storm struck the area two days later. Due to the damage left from Harvey, the school pushed back its fall start date to Monday, Sept. 11 and forced the cancellation of four matches for both the UHV men's and women's teams along the way.
