The Cuero Police Department released the name of a man Tuesday who barricaded himself in a building behind his home Monday afternoon and then killed himself.
Officers responded to the 500 block of East French Street to perform a welfare check at 3:50 p.m. They found Gabriel Tinsley, 40, of Cuero, had entered the building with a gun possibly intending to hurt himself, according to a news release from the Cuero Police Department.
Officers established a security perimeter around the building and attempted to communicate with Tinsley, who didn't respond. Following many attempts by voice and telephone with Tinsley, officers gained entry to the building and found him deceased, according to the news release.
DeWitt County Justice of the Peace Peggy Mayer held an inquest and pronounced the man dead. She ruled the cause of death as a suicide by a self-inflicted gunshot wound.
