"I have fought a good fight, I have finished my course, I have kept the faith: Henceforth there is laid up for me a crown of righteousness, which the Lord, the righteous judge, shall give me at that day: and not to me only, but unto all them also that love his appearing."
- 2 Timothy 4:7-8
In my youth, I played many sports and I wanted to be a winner at everything I did.
I also fished the same way. I wade fished until I caught my limit of fish.
As I have grown up and older, I have found that those traits can wear you out until you can't enjoy anything but success.
I use to wade fish at the break of dawn and fish until I caught my limit, or I fished from "can to can't."
Now, I usually fish from my lawn chair on my favorite beach. I enjoy the relaxing melody of the waves hitting the shore and the sounds of seagulls.
I find myself fishing with my rod and reel in my lap and praying that a fish lazier than me will grab the bait and catch itself. Yes, I fish differently in my older age.
I have fought the good fight. I have finished my course, and I have the cramped, wrinkled hands to prove it.
I have kept the faith.
And I will teach my grand children to look for and love what the ocean and God have in store for them.
Dear Lord, help me to finish my course by letting me help others to keep the faith, to help them finish the course, so that we all obtain the crowns You have laid up for us.
