At least one school board race will be contested in the May 5 election, as of Monday.

Officials anticipate more candidates may file by the Friday deadline, said Superintendent Robert Jaklich. Four people have picked up candidate packets but have not returned them.

Three seats are up for election, including District 2, District 3 and District 4.

Michael P. Atkinson, 60, a Victoria business owner, is challenging the incumbent Estella P. De Los Santos, 62, of Victoria, school professor, for District 2.

Kirby Lynn Garrett, 52, a Victoria dentist, is the only candidate to file for District 3. Lou Svetlik resigned Nov. 30 from the position.

Board president Ross Mansker, 56, of Victoria, a physical therapist, is the only candidate to apply for District 4.

Filing for a place on the ballot ends at 5 p.m. Friday.
