Man assaulted in store parking lot, arrest made

Victoria Police Department arrested a Victoria man Sunday on aggravated assault charges.

Mark Guerra, 18, was charged with assaulting Jimmy Clifford, 48, of Victoria, in the parking lot at H-E-B, 1505 E. Rio Grande Street, at about 11:25 a.m. Sunday, according to a news release from the police department.

When police arrived at the parking lot, they found Clifford who was bleeding from the head.

He was taken to Citizens Medical Center and later taken by helicopter to University Hospital in San Antonio, according to the news release.

Through the investigation, officers discovered Mark Guerra, 18, of Victoria, was suspected of assaulting Clifford and left the location. They found Guerra shortly after and arrested him on a warrant charging him with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

As of Monday afternoon, Guerra remained in the Victoria County Jail and was being held on a $100,000 bond.
