FROM A NEWS RELEASE

Victoria police arrested a man in connection with a shooting on New Year’s Day.

Juan Guerrero is being treated at a Victoria hospital for injuries that were not considered life-threatening, and Elvis Caballero is in the Victoria County Jail, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon.

At 1:09 p.m., police were dispatched to the 1200 block of East Virginia Street after shots were fired, said officer David Brogger, spokesman for the Victoria Police Department.

Officers found Guerrero with a gunshot wound to the left side of his head and Caballero fleeing on foot. A short time later, an officer caught Caballero and arrested him, Brogger said.

No age or city of residence was immediately available Monday night.

An investigation is ongoing.
