A shooting victim was released from a Victoria hospital Tuesday after he suffered nonlife-threatening injuries Monday afternoon.

Juan Guerrero, 51, of Victoria, was taken to Citizens Medical Center after suffering a gunshot wound to the left side of his head.

At 1:09 p.m. Monday, police were dispatched to the 1200 block of East Virginia Street after shots were fired, said officer David Brogger, spokesman for the Victoria Police Department. Officers found Elvis Caballero, 32, of Victoria, fleeing on foot. A short time later, an officer caught Caballero and arrested him.

Tuesday, Caballero remained in the Victoria County Jail, charged with aggravated assault with a deadly weapon, unlawful possession of a firearm by a felon, tampering or fabricating with physical evidence with intent to impair and evading arrest detention. He is being held in lieu of $132,500 bond.

The Victoria Police Department continues to investigate the shooting.
