Temperatures in the Crossroads could drop to freezing this weekend.

The Victoria Area Homeless Coalition is preparing to help the homeless by providing a warming shelter at Pine Street Community Center, 803 N. East St.

The warming shelter will be open at 6 p.m. Saturday and close at 8 a.m. Sunday.

Homeless Coalition President Lisa Griffin said if freezing temperatures continue, they will extend the warming shelter dates as needed.

As of Friday afternoon, the National Weather Service reports freezing temperatures are possible through Sunday morning.

The coalition will need volunteers to staff the shelter and will accept monetary donations to support warming shelter expenses.

To request shelter or additional details or to volunteer, contact Griffin at 361-575-7842 or 361-935-1451.
