Thumbs-up, thumbs-down; it's your choice

Thumbs-up to measures taken to reduce the spread of flu and other contagious illnesses. To cut down on disease transmission from person to person in a household, do not eat or drink after another person even if that person appears well because the contagion is in full force a day before symptoms appear. Also, disposable plates and eating utensils for an ill person can be an aid against contamination. Cellphones and television remotes can be cleaned with alcohol wipes to cut down on germs.
Thumbs-up and thank you to the kind mystery person in Casa Ole who paid for our entire meal while I was dining with my handicapped aunt, Merredith Gail Evans, for her 68th birthday. Your kindness is greatly appreciated, and you made her birthday a very special one!
Thumbs-up to TDECU for having a member champion employee, Rhonda Fowler. She's very friendly and helps customers with anything they need. Outstanding service!
Thumbs-up to whomever turned in a Jerusalem cross necklace that was left in the fitting room at J.C. Penney's on Dec. 28. It has a lot of sentimental value.
There are honest people in this city. Thank you!
Thumbs-up to free smoke alarms being installed by the Victoria Fire Department. Smoke alarms save lives every day.
We have a tendency to think that fires happen to other people - not to us. Well, fires are really indiscriminate. Fires do not play favorites! Sometimes, it's wiring. Other times, it's an ember that manages to flare up after everyone in the house is asleep. Cooking accidents happen. Sometimes, children play with matches.
The Fire Marshal's Office can be reached at 361-485-3460 for more information regarding free smoke alarms being provided through a grant. Be safe!
Thumbs-up for family activities like Comic Con. My niece and her friends especially like the cosplay, not necessarily the performers who are brought in. Maybe another person/group or the Victoria Public Library could have a Comic Con version 2.0 in Victoria.
Thumbs-up to Girl Scout cookies. I look forward to this so much every year!
Thumbs-up for all the young men who were selected to the Victoria Advocate all-area football team. Awesome accomplishment! Congratulations especially to Jordan Whittington for winning MVP. He'll soon be sporting the Aggie maroon and white, playing for the only championship coach in Texas.
Thumbs-up to the Victoria Advocate's annual Best of the Best contest where readers have a rare opportunity to use their "voices" to indicate their favorite companies and people who have done exceptional work throughout the year.
Thumbs-up to the history of excellent work done by retiring school board president Lou Svetlik and superintendent Robert Jaklich to benefit the children of Victoria.
