Czech Heritage Society begins year with technology lesson

The Victoria County Czech Heritage Society will begin the new year exploring the latest technology to research, learn about, preserve and enjoy its Czech heritage.

The group will meet 6:30 p.m. Wednesday in St. Peter's Hall of Holy Family Catholic Church, 704 Mallette Drive in Victoria. The program will start after a brief meeting, according to a news release from the Czech Society.

The tech program will be "Learning Czech and Staying Up-to-date with Czech events using your Smartphone." It will look at 10 programs or apps about all things Czech that are downloadable on smartphones. These include Using Facebook for Czech sites and event updates, Czech Flash Cards, Czech Fun Easy Learn, Czech Radio Online, Dic-o Czech-English, Czech-English Dictionary, Learn Czech - 50 Languages, Nemo Czech, Smart Speller Czech and Vyukove Karticky (Educational Cards).

Presenting the program will be Melanie and James Janak, Joe Pustka and Joe Janak, all members of the Victoria County Czech Heritage Society.

The meeting is free. Annual club membership dues are $15 for adults and $2.50 for children younger than 15 years old.

Refreshments will be served.
