Pablo Delgado started Sugar & Spice League play with a great game, faltered at little during the middle game and made the adjustment the third game to finish with a 681 series to lead all bowlers.

Delgado started the first game with two spares and then found his stroke to string 10 strikes for an opening 279 game. He rolled a 189 second game when he lost strike carry and a big split open in the sixth frame. Delgado rebounded the final game to roll a 213 for his total.

Shawn Miller posted the second high series for the week with individual games of 214, 233 and 226 for a 673 total rolled during Sundowner League play.

After a two week break due to the holidays, Jerry Cano led the Monday Mixed League with a very nice series of 671. He had individual games of 247, 226 and 198 for his set.

Other bowlers breaking the 250-650 mark were Aaron Whitehead (667), Joey Matson (667), Tamarcus Bennett (264-665), T.J. Mooney (254-665), Charles Aiken (651) and Mike Stacy with a very nice 279 high game in Sundowner League action.

The ladies struggled a little this past week with Trudy Wortham posting a 549 series during Sugar & Spice League for the top score.

Lisa Williams with a 203-546 rolled the second high total for the women. Janet Sims rolled a nice 225 high game in Sundowner League play.

Important reminder

Feb. 10, the 2018 Lions District 2-S4 West Bowl-A-Thon will be competed at the Century lanes. This tournament raises money to help the Texas Gulf Coast and parts of East Texas to provide education in the prevention of corneal blindness. Last year the eye bank distributed more than 1,200 donor corneas for transplant. Entry forms are available at the Century Lanes front desk.

The second tournament is the Victoria USBC Mixed Doubles Tournament which will be held on Feb. 17. This tournament is open to all members of the VUSBC and is a handicap tournament. It is a good warmup for the Victoria USBC City tournaments coming in April.

Welcome back to league bowling David Flores, who rejoined the Over The Hill League after a two-year absence due to back problems.

Ray Nickel and Randy Vivero are still on injured reserve and hope to resume bowling soon.

Bowler remembered

It is with regret that I note two more former Victoria bowlers having passed away.

Karen Mae Macha, age 85, and Barbara Ann McMahan age 73, passed last week. Barbara was a member of the Cuero Turkey Trotters League in the early 1990's.

My sympathy and condolence to the families.

The GEICO WSOB IX completed its season with the World Bowling Tours women's and men's finals last Sunday with exciting competition.

In the women's division semifinal match, Danielle McEwan (USA) defeated Malaysia's Shalin Zulkifli 244-231 to meet top seed Dianan Zavjalova (Latvia) in the championship match.

In a close match , Zavjalova won the title 235-233 victory when McEwan failed to strike in the 10th frame.

In the men's division, Jason Belmonte defeated Marshall Kent with a best ball roll off after both bowlers had finished with a 267 game. Belmonte struck on his first ball, and Kent only knocked down 8 pins.

Kent had defeated Jesper Svensson 231-224 in the semifinal match.

The next televised match will be the PBA Tournament of Champions scheduled for February 11 at noon on ESPN.
