Patrick J. Kennedy, Yoakum's economic/ community development coordinator, accepted the 2010 Community Economic Development Award for the City of Yoakum for Outstanding Achievement in Community Economic Development for population group 5,001-15,000. The award was presented at the Texas Economic Development Council annual meeting on Oct. 7 in Houston.

Kimberly Garrett, realtor with RE/MAX Land and Homes, was recently awarded the Graduate Realtor Institute designation, by attending a specific, intensive series of a minimum of 90 hours of classroom instruction.

Charles Wartsbaugh, an Edward Jones financial advisor in Victoria, recently attended growth leader training in St. Louis, Mo. In the role of growth leader, Wartsbaugh is responsible for recruiting new financial advisors in the South Texas area.

Shainy Varghese, an assistant professor of nursing at the University of Houston-Victoria, will give a presentation at the National Association of Indian Nurses of America Conference on Oct. 22-23 at the Westchase Marriott Hotel in Houston. Varghese's presentation is titled "Telehealth: A Changing Mode of Health Care Delivery."
