University of Houston-Victoria School of Nursing faculty members Jere Hammer, Denise Neill, Vivian Nowazek and Eugenia Blomstrom recently presented posters about their dissertation research at the 14th annual Distinguished Parry Lectureship in Houston. Hammer's poster was titled "Rapid Response Team Characteristics and Death among Surgical Inpatients with Treatable Serious Complications." Neill's poster was on "Development of a Subjective Workload Assessment for Nurses." Nowazek's poster was titled "Predictors of CVICU Length of Stay in Coronary Artery Bypass Surgery Patients Undergoing Cardiopulmonary Bypass." Blomstrom's poster was "The Essence of the Experience of Polypharmacy in the Life-World of Community Dwelling Elders."

Dr. Miguel Sierra-Hoffman, co-authored an article titled, "Postoperative Instrumented Spine Infections: A Retrospective Review." The article was published in the January Southern Medical Journal. Sierra-Horrman is serving as infectious disease director at Warm Springs Specialty Hospital of Victoria.

LuAnn O'Connor, certified residential specialist, was awarded membership in the 2010 International President's Circle. This award is among the highest honor presented by Coldwell Banker Real Estate LLC.

Fred L. Sanchez, certified real estate broker and graduate of the Realtors Institute, and Jimmy Zaplac, GRI, achieved International Diamond Society Membership. Only the top five percent of Coldwell Banker sales agents worldwide receive this honor.

Joe Ortega, Penny Holz and Susan Orsak, were named to the International Sterling Society for the Coldwell Bankers System. Only the top eight percent of about 96,900 sales associates worldwide in the Coldwell Banker System earn this membership.

Dolores Solis was recently hired as the counseling services secretary at The Victoria College. Solis recently served in student affairs at Texas State Technical College and Texas Christian University.

Suzanne LaBrecque, University of Houston-Victoria provost and vice president for academic affairs, was part of a panel discussion during the Board of Texas Women in Higher Education's, the Texas affiliate, annual conference April 8 - 9 in Dallas. The panel featured successful higher education leaders and focused on their pathways to higher education administration.

Bruce David Parma of Yorktown, was recently honored as a safety champion at the 2009 North America Safety Recognition Banquet hosted by Exterran Holdings, Inc. in Houston.

Dana Medina was recently named manager of The Buckle store, in the Victoria Mall in Victoria.
