Food service inspection reports

The Victoria County Public Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Priority items 1-20 is 3 demerits; Priority Foundation items 21-33 are 2 demerits; and Core items are 1 demerit. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those Priority and Core items are detailed.

FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING MAY 22

Daniel’s Tacos, 902 W. Main St., Edna. Demerits: 27. Expired milk. Need to cover food. Need to label spray bottles. Need a certified food manager. Need food handlers certificates. Need to date-label. Need to replace broken floor tiles. Flies present. Do not store personal items in restroom. Need to store wiping cloths in sanitizer. Need to store food 4 to 6 inches off the floor. Need to thaw meat under cold running water. Do not store utensils on dirty surface. Shelves must be easily cleanable and clean. Floors and walls need a good cleaning. Need covered trash can in employee restroom. Need hand-washing sign at hand sink.

Shooters Bar, 4705 N. Navarro St., Suite 100, Victoria. Demerits: 14. Outdated half and half. Need to label spray bottles. Expired food handler certificate. Need accurate thermometer in cooler. Need sanitizer test strips. Need soap and paper towels at hand sink. Need to store ice scoop on clean, sanitized surface. Need to store glasses on clean, sanitized surface. Vent fans not working in restrooms. Need covered trash in women’s restroom. Need hand-washing sign in women’s restroom.

La Antigua, 737 N. SH 35, Port Lavaca. Demerits: 10. Freezer not freezing. White fridge not holding 41 degrees or less. Kenmore not holding 41 degrees or less. Need to provide time log on food that is not holding 41 degrees. Need to use licensed pesticide products only. Need to use proper defrosting method.

Burger King No. 16248, 2103 Houston Highway, Victoria. Demerits: 8. Items not frozen. Need food handlers certificates. Need to wear hair restraints. Need to replace ceiling tiles over mop sink and over grill. Need to display certified food manager certificate visible to public. Need to post last inspection. Restroom needs hand-washing signs.

Field of Dreams STJ Athletic Complex, 3006 N. Cameron St., Victoria. Demerits: 8. Need an employee health and personal hygiene book. Need bodily fluid cleanup kit. Need a thermometer in white fridge. Need to store napkins and plates 6 inches off the ground.

KidVersity, 1502 E. Mockingbird Lane Victoria. Demerits: 6. Dishwasher detergent needs sanitizer. Need certified food manager. Need to store wet towels in sanitizer bucket.

Hooper’s Bar and Grille, 2441 West Maple St., Port O’Connor. Demerits: 5. Need an employee health and personal hygiene book. Need to install mop sink. Needs to have hot and cold water.

The Grape Vine Cafe, 110 Medical Drive, Suite 102, Victoria. Demerits: 5. Need to fix leak at three-compartment sink. Need certified food manager.

Barry’s Cajun Food, Mobile Unit, Cuero. Demerits: 4. Need current water sample. Employee drinks must have lids and straws.

Art’s Food Truck, 449 Broadway St., Port Lavaca; Dock’s Good Eats, 712 W. Adams St., Port O’Connor. Demerits: 3.

Victoria Warm Springs Hospital, 102 Medical Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 1.

Edna Seafood and Grill, 1022 S. Wells St., Edna; H-E-B No. 434, 101 Calhoun Plaza, Port Lavaca; Mad Batter Cheesecakes and Desserts Bar, 495 Matson St., Port Lavaca; Oma’s Mobile Morsels, 2049 Fisher Smith Road, Port Lavaca; Gluten Freedom Bakery, 609 Foster Field Drive, Victoria; Karen’s Sweet Pea Cupcakery, 4 Longview Drive, Victoria; Knights of Columbus Hall, 3610 N. Ben Wilson St., Victoria; Our Lady of Lourdes Church Hall, 105 N. William St., Victoria; Warm Springs Rehab Hospital of Victoria, 101 James Coleman Drive, Victoria; Westhoff Independent School District, 244 Lynch Ave., Westhoff; BCFS Education Services Yoakum Head Start, 708 Boyle St., Yoakum; Demerits: 0.

REINSPECTIONS

Art’s Food Truck, 449 Broadway St., Port Lavaca, inspected May 17 with 3 demerits. Reinspected May 21 with all violations corrected.

La Antigua, 737 N. SH 35, Port Lavaca, inspected May 16 with 10 demerits. Reinspected May 17 with most violations corrected.
