Food service inspection reports

The Victoria County Public Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Priority items 1-20 is 3 demerits; Priority Foundation items 21-33 are 2 demerits; and Core items are 1 demerit. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those Priority and Core items are detailed.

FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING APRIL 10

Snax Mart, 710 N. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 24. Discard expired medication. Discard expired milk. Need employee health and personal hygiene handbook. Need certified food manager. Need food handlers certificates. Need hot water at the sinks. Need to date-label packaged candy. Deli sandwiches need use-by dates. Need chlorine test strips. Need soap in the restroom. Need to replace cracked mop sink. Need paper towels in the restroom. Need a lid on the trash can in the restroom. Need a first-aid kit.

Victoria’s Cafe 2, 607 S. Laurent St., Victoria. Demerits: 18. Need to document time food is kept out at room temperature. Need to store tomatoes 6 inches off the floor in the walk-in cooler. Need to cover items in the walk-in cooler. Need employee health and personal hygiene handbook. Need all food handlers certificates on file. Do not use cardboard on the floors. Employee drinks need a lid and straw. Need to store purses away from dish area. Need to defrost meat under cold, running water.

Circle K Store No. 2704045, 502 N. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 16. Need employee health and personal hygiene handbook. Need to label sanitizer bucket. Hose from ceiling cannot drain into the three-compartment sink. Hand sink needs hot water and does not have enough pressure. Do not store containers in the hand sink. Flies and gnats present. Need to clean wall by the walk-in cooler. Need to clean wall by the three-compartment sink. Women’s restroom needs trash can with a lid.

Maria’s Tamales, 402 S. Esplanade St., Cuero. Demerits: 13. Cannot have over-the-counter spray in the establishment. Need to fix leak under the three-compartment sink. Need food handlers certificates. Need thermometer in the white refrigerator. Employees need hair nets or ball caps. Employee drinks need lids and straws. Need to label containers with salt. Restroom needs paper towels.

Stripes Store 40884H, 1200 E. Broadway St., Cuero. Demerits: 13. Three-door milk cooler not holding 41 degrees or less. Need to discard any potentially hazardous food in the milk cooler. Need current food handlers certificates. Hot water in the restrooms does not reach 100 degrees. Need to fix leak at the hand sink.

Subway/TA dba Travel Centers of America, 802 E. York St., Ganado. Demerits: 5. Hose to mop sink needs to be above sink level. Hose to mop sink needs to be replaced. Need cold water at hand sink.

Country Slaughter House, 3857 Burroughsville Road, Victoria. Demerits: 5. Need one certified food manager. Need food handlers certificates. Dumpster needs to be on nonabsorbent pad.

Walmart No. 385, 1202 E. Broadway St., Cuero; BCFS Education Services Edna Head Start, 104 Shelby Park Road, Edna. Demerits: 3.

Snax Max No. 10, 4901 John Stockbauer Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 2.

BBQ Station, 114 S. Esplanade St., Cuero; Telferner Grocery and Market, 202 S. Wood St., Telferner; Christ’s Kitchen, 611 E. Warren St., Victoria; Corn Dawg 8, Mobile Unit, Victoria; Twin Pines North Nursing and Rehabilitation Center, 1301 Mallette Drive, Victoria; Demerits: 0.
