Food service inspection reports

The Victoria County Public Health Department Environmental Health Division inspects places where food is served in Victoria, DeWitt, Jackson and Calhoun counties.

In the inspection reports, each violation in the Priority items 1-20 is 3 demerits; Priority Foundation items 21-33 are 2 demerits; and Core items are 1 demerit. Zero is a perfect score, while 100 demerits is the worst possible score.

Each Wednesday, the Advocate publishes inspection results from the previous week. All demerits are reported, but only those Priority and Core items are detailed.

FOOD SERVICE INSPECTIONS FOR WEEK ENDING APRIL 17

The “New” Rodeo No. 2, 2001 John Stockbauer Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 23. Do not use nonfood approved buckets for food storage. Do not use thank-you bags to store rice in. Need to cover all food in the walk-in cooler. Need to store raw meats below cooked foods. Need to wash hands in between different tasks. Need to wear gloves when touching lemons. Cannot have over-the-counter pesticide in the establishment. Need certified food manager. Need asterisk by items that can be served raw or undercooked. Need soap and paper towels at hand sink. Need a clean cutting board and knife at the bar. Need to store soiled towels in sanitizer bucket. Need to store onions 6 inches off the floor. Need to replace missing floor tiles in the kitchen.

Greek’s 205, 205 E. Constitution St., Victoria. Demerits: 19. Need to store different raw meats on separate shelves. Need an employee health and personal hygiene handbook. Need to label spray bottle. Need a certified food manager. Need food handlers certificates. Need 2019 permit. All shelves must be easy cleanable. Kitchen area needs light shields. Need hand-washing sign at bar sink.

Sharda Food Store No. 2, 1403 Sam Houston Drive, Victoria. Demerits: 15. Need an employee health and personal hygiene handbook. Need mop sink. Need bodily fluid cleanup kit. Need food handlers certificates for all employees. Deli Express sandwiches need use-by date. Need test strips. Need to post last inspection.

Shop-Rite Grocery, 3006 E. Red River St., Victoria. Demerits: 15. Expired food. All food items must be stored 6 inches off floor. Need employee health and personal hygiene handbook. Need food handlers certificates. Need test strips. Need to install three-compartment sink and a mop sink.

Jason’s Deli, 5301 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 13. Need to drape mop sink hose. Need food handlers certificate. Need test strips. Do not block hand sink. Need to clean ice machine. Items in walk-in must be 6 inches off of the floor. Need to defrost items under cold running water.

The Grind, 2200 E. Red River St., Victoria. Demerits: 11. Need employee health and personal hygiene handbook. Need certified food manager. Need a bodily fluid clean-up kit. Need food handlers certificates. Need to date-label sandwiches in cooler. Employees restroom needs covered trash can. Employees restroom needs a hand-washing sign.

Victoria Subway, 1102 Rio Grande St., Suite 300, Victoria. Demerits: 9. Cooler not holding 41 degrees or below. Need employee health and personal hygiene handbook. Need food handlers certificates for all employees. Employees need to wear caps/hair nets.

Frances Marie’s Restaurant and Cantina, 2505 E. Houston Highway, Victoria. Demerits: 6. Dishwasher not sanitizing. Need to date-label food in cooler. Need to clean air vents.

Schlotzsky’s Deli, 4601 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits: 3.

Nutri-Fuel Smoothies and Supplements, 5212 N. Navarro St., Victoria. Demerits 2.

Mission Valley Elementary School, 12063 Farm-to-Market Road, Victoria. Demerits: 1

Faith Academy, 2002 Mockingbird Lane, Victoria; Speedy Stop No. 1, 8701 N. Navarro St., Victoria; St. Joseph High School, 110 E. Red River St., Victoria; Subway, 4008 U.S. Highway 59 N, Victoria; The “Other” Store No. 2, 1409 N.E. Water St., Victoria; Victoria Community Center, 2905 E. North St., Victoria; Victoria Regional Juvenile Justice Center, 97 Foster Field Drive, Victoria;Demerits: 0.

RE-INSPECTIONS

Frances Marie’s Restaurant and Cantina, 2505 E. Houston Highway, Victoria, inspected April 15 with 6 demerits. Re-inspected April 17 with most violations corrected.
