About 200 people are expected to attend the 20th annual F.W. Gross High School reunion this weekend at the Victoria Community Center Annex, an event organizer said Tuesday.
The F.W. Gross High School Alumni Association hosts a school reunion every two years, said Victor Marshall, president of the association. Marshall graduated from F.W. Gross High School in 1959.
“We’ve been blessed. Every two years, classmates attend, and we all get to socialize and catch up,” said Marshall, 77.
The reunion is scheduled for Friday-Sunday at the Victoria Community Center Annex, 2905 E. North St. Friday, registration will begin at 10 a.m. and opening ceremonies will begin at 11 a.m., Marshall said. Mayor Rawley McCoy will speak, and there will be a ribbon-cutting during opening ceremonies.
Alumni also plan to plant two trees at the F.W. Gross campus, 1208 S. Navarro St., in memory of the teachers and students of the school who have died, Marshall said.
Friday night, there will be a reunion banquet. Vanessa Hicks-Callaway will be the main speaker during the banquet, and Victoria school district Superintendent Quintin Shepherd is also expected to speak at the banquet about the future of the F.W. Gross campus.
Saturday, there will be a reunion luncheon followed by a fashion show, Marshall said. There will also be an alumni dance Saturday evening. There will be a church service at 10:30 a.m. Sunday at the F.W. Gross School auditorium. The Rev. Jeff Williams of Mt. Calvary Missionary Baptist Church will lead the service, Marshall said.
