Victoria police officers responded to a home about 3:25 a.m. Monday in the 1400 block of Loma Vista in response to a prowler.
Upon arrival, officers located a person walking away from the home. The man initially provided a false name to officers; however, they were able to identify him as 33-year-old Victoria resident Jeremy Powell, according to a news release from the police department.
While officers were placing Powell under arrest for a warrant and failure to identify as a fugitive, he resisted arrest and assaulted an officer, according to the news release. Powell was charged with the initial warrant, assault of a public servant, resisting arrest, failure to identify as a fugitive, possession of marijuana, possession of a controlled substance and possession of a prohibited substance in a correctional facility.
Powell remained in the Victoria County Jail as of Tuesday afternoon.
