“Cast all your cares upon the Lord, for He careth for you.” – 1 Peter 5:7
Today, I learned a new way to fish. Today, I learned a new way to pray. It’s called “fish praying” or “prayer fishing.”
Each day, I like to spend some quality time in communion with God – prayer time. Each day, I like to spend some quality time fishing. My only problem was that I couldn’t find enough quality time for both. I will not admit which activity I chose if time was limited, but you know me.
To solve this problem, I decided to combine the two activities so that I could double the benefits of both. I prayed while fishing and fished while praying. No, I didn’t just pray for a big fish – well, maybe a little. I just communicated with God. I formed a ritual, a regime and a litany.
Each time I would cast out, I would think of one sin that I needed to cast out of my life. Boy, my arms got really tired, but my soul felt better.
Each time I would reel in, I would picture myself reeling in God’s forgiveness, grace, mercy and power. Between casts, I waited to catch what God was saying to me. Doing this, I caught several good fish and some new directions for my life.
Dear Lord, Didn’t we have fun today? You always did love the sea. It’s nice to come home with fish, forgiveness and fullness. See you next time!
