The finalists are Andrea Gardner, the city manager in Watauga; Jesús A. Garza, the city manager in Kingsville; and John Kessel, the former city manager in Schertz.

Victoria’s City Council could name their top pick for the new city manager Tuesday.

The council will gather for a special meeting Tuesday evening and is scheduled to spend most of the meeting in closed session to discuss the position of city manager. The council is also expected to approve a resolution that would authorize Mayor Paul Polasek to execute the employment agreement with the new city manager.

Last week, council members interviewed three finalists for the job: Andrea Gardner, Jesús Garza and John Kessel. All three candidates for the job are current or former Texas city managers.

Victoria’s city manager works on a two-year contract that is approved annually by council. The salary for the city manager position is between $200,000 and $215,000 depending on qualifications, according to a document advertising the job.

Victoria’s outgoing city manager, Charmelle Garrett, announced her retirement last year. Garrett, the first woman to serve as Victoria’s city manager, worked for the city for 28 years, the last eight as city manager. Garrett’s last day will be April 30.
