Victoria Building Mugs

The Victoria City Council meets at the Municipal Court building, 107 W. Juan Linn St.

Victoria Municipal Court will offer its first evening Open Court Day on July 15, according to a news release from the city.

The evening docket will be held in addition to the usual daytime sessions, which are scheduled on the fourth Monday of every month, except for December. Upcoming daytime dockets are July 22, Aug. 26 and Sept. 23.

The evening Open Court Day came about as court officials recognized that some defendants who work during the day cannot attend the afternoon open docket sessions, Court Administrator Tiffany Totah said in the news release.

On Open Court Days, defendants with overdue tickets or active warrants may come in and speak to Victoria Municipal Court Judge Vanessa Heinold about special circumstances that may limit their ability to pay fines. Defendants can set up payment plans or reinstate previously approved payment plans.

Defendants will not be arrested or detained during Open Court Day for outstanding warrants.

Totah said approximately 2,600 outstanding arrest warrants are on the books of the Victoria Municipal Court. Each month, as many as 200 new warrants are issued.
