Cattle on hand: 1,000

Had 90 cows and 18 bulls. The packer market was fully steady on a very hot supply of cows and bulls. Any differences from last week are due to quality.

The calf market was lower in most cases $3 to $4 off last week’s levels. More pronounced decline is in heavier bull calves. Steers as a rule are the least affected of all the classes. The uncertainty of the corn crop and resulting prices has all parties worried.

Packer bulls: All weights, $70-$84.

Packer cows: Canners and cutters, $50-$63; light and weak, $34-$49.

Compared to last week: The market was a little lower again this week. Better quality classes sold steady in a few areas but mostly $2 to $3 lower. No. 2 and very fleshy types sold $3 to $4 lower. Higher corn prices and low fat and futures markets all working against our calves.

Packer cows and bulls sold fully steady on about 180 head total.

Packer cows: Canner and cutter cows, $48-$63; utility and fat cows, $48-$64; light weight canner cows, $36-$48; poor and weak cows, $28-$40.

Packer bulls: Heavyweight bulls, $80-$88; utility and cutter bulls, $73-$82; light weight canner bulls, $64-$75.
