Two women were arrested Tuesday in an undercover prostitution investigation at Chi Spa, 106 Jason St.
Li Yan Mu, 54, of Victoria was arrested on suspicion of prostitution. Yuping Ma, 50, of Houston, was arrested on suspicion of prostitution and aggravated promotion of prostitution by the Victoria Police Department.
The department’s Special Crimes Unit coordinated an undercover investigation at the spa after numerous citizens complained about illegal activity at the location, said Officer David Brogger, a spokesman with the department.
Victoria police have made four prostitution-related arrests at the business since March, he said.
“This is a great example (of) our citizens making us aware of a problem and excellent work on behalf of our Special Crimes Unit,” said Deputy Chief Mark Jameson, with the Victoria Police Department. “It is important to understand (that) this is more than just prostitution; these types of cases involve human trafficking and proceeds gained sometimes fund international terrorism.”
Both women were booked into the Victoria County Jail early Wednesday. Ma remains in custody in lieu of a $50,500 surety bond.
