The Coast Guard has ended the search for a missing swimmer at Matagorda Beach.

Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received notification that a body was recovered approximately 6 p.m. matching the description of the missing swimmer.

The search began Sunday when Sector Houston-Galveston watchstanders received a report that a 16-year-old boy was missing after not making it back to shore while swimming with friends.

Involved in the search were an Air Station Houston MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew, a Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi MH-65 Dolphin helicopter aircrew, a Sector/Air Station Corpus Christi HC-144 Ocean Sentry aircrew, a Station Freeport 45-foot Response Boat – Medium boat crew, a Station Port O’Connor 45-foot Response Boat – Medium boat crew, a Sector Houston- Galveston drone team, a Coast Guard Cutter Sea Horse and a Coast Guard Cutter Stingray.

The Matagorda Sheriff’s Office and Texas Parks and Wildlife also assisted in the search.
