A Victoria native is on the international stage this week celebrating her engagement to NASCAR star driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.

Amy Reimann, a 2000 graduate of Victoria High School, said yes after Earnhardt proposed to her in Germany.

"I'm completely overwhelmed with love & joy. Happiest girl in the world!" Reimann tweeted Wednesday. She attached a photo in which she posed with Earnhardt while wearing an engagement ring.

Earnhardt, the 2014 Daytona 500 winner, also tweeted: "Looking forward to the rest of my life with this amazing girl."

Reimann attended the University of Kentucky and graduated in 2005 with a Bachelor of Arts in Interior Design.

In high school, her Stingarees cheerleading team won the Universal Cheerleaders Association national championship.

"She was driven, hard-working, talented, and competitive," Denise Neel, Reimann's VHS cheerleading coach recalled Saturday.

"I am so happy for Amy and wish her the very best," she said.

Reimann also earned accolades in other extracurricular activities.

"She was a Victoria Strutter and participated in the Miss Victoria Pageant," dance school owner and instructor Debbie Bennett Green said. "She comes from a great family and has always been a beautiful young lady; I wish her the best."

Doug Kidder, who used to be a photographer and graphic artist at Kids Print Shop, recalled the studio using Reimann's senior photo on their sample graduation invitations. Those samples proved to spur record sales for photo front graduation invitations, he said.

"Years later, I hear her name on the NASCAR Radio Network that she is Dale Earnhardt Jr.'s girlfriend at the time and now engaged," said Kidder, now co-director of the day camp program at the YMCA. "Wow, I am really happy for her and wish them the very best for the future."

USA Today reported the couple had been dating since 2009. Their first public appearance as a couple came in 2011 at the NASCAR Sprint Cup awards ceremony in Las Vegas.

Earnhardt popped the question during a trip he took to explore his family's genealogy in Germany. Earnhardt and Reimann were joined on the trip by other friends and family, including Earnhardt's sister, Kelly Earnhardt-Miller and Kelly's husband, L.W. Miller.

Katie Zowarka Stubbs, also VHS class of 2000, said Reimann and her famous fiance have visited Victoria.

"She's been dating him for a really long time. They've been around here a few times, holidays and what-not," Stubbs said.

Stubbs said she was surprised she knows someone now engaged to a NASCAR driver.

"It just shows how small the world is," Stubbs said. "It's really cool, and I'm really happy for her."
