Everyday Hero

Refugio D. Aleman

Refugio D. Aleman

• Occupation: Army retired; body shop technician

• Hometown: Victoria

• Why honored: I see my father-in-law, Refugio Aleman, as my hero. He is the head of the Aleman family. It is an honor to see such an example of bravery, valor and gentleness all in one man. He quietly and patiently leads this family and has led them for many years with such respect and character. This is very clear to me because of the way they have treated me since the very first day I met them all. My father-in-law is an Army veteran who fought in the Korean War, and I know that he experienced so much, yet his heart is so humble and kind. He's become my favorite man in this world - next only to my husband. He makes me very proud to be his daughter-in-law, and like the rest of the family, I, too, look up to him. He will forever be my everyday hero.
