A vacant mobile home in Bloomington caught fire Friday night.

The home at 63 San Antonio Ave. was vacant when the fire started, said Michael McDaniel, an engineer with the Victoria County Fire Department.

No one had been living at the home before Friday’s fire, although the Victoria County Sheriff’s Office executed a search warrant at the residence in April as part of a March shooting investigation. At the time, Chief Deputy Roy Boyd said the home belonged to the Baladez family.

Fire damages vacant Bloomington mobile home

First responders gather at the scene of a vacant mobile home fire in Bloomington.

“It may have started on the left side of the structure where most of the fire damage appears and may have spread into the interior structure,” McDaniel said. “Being that it is vacant and no telling how long it has been for, due to the fire damage – I haven’t been inside myself – but it would probably be near to a total loss.”

The Victoria Fire Department, Placedo Volunteer Fire Department, Bloomington Volunteer Fire Department and Victoria County Sheriff’s Office responded to the blaze about 10:35 p.m.

Richard Castillo, the Victoria County fire marshal, said the department returned to the mobile home Saturday to investigate but still has not determined the case of the fire.
