Generic police tape

Two accidental shootings sent two Victoria residents to area hospitals Sunday.

A 16-year-old boy appeared to accidentally shoot himself in his lower leg in the 1400 block of East Power Ave. Officers responded at 4:33 p.m., and the boy was transported with injuries that were not life-threatening to Citizens Medical Center. Police continue to investigate the incident, said Lt. Clay Fetters with the Victoria Police Department.

Officers also responded to the 1400 block of North Glass Street at 6:22 p.m. Tammye Sugarek, 58, of Victoria, accidentally shot herself in her left calf while carrying her rifle and opening her front door. She had retrieved the rifle from her vehicle, Fetters said. She was transported to DeTar Hospital Navarro with injuries that were not life-threatening.
