The Victoria County Sheriff’s Office began a homicide investigation Thursday after discovering a man’s body at a home on Beck Road West off Upper Mission Valley Road.
Officials have already identified the suspect in the case and determined that there is no ongoing danger to the public, said Roy Boyd, chief deputy for Victoria County.
Rose Marie Garcia, of Victoria, was booked into the Victoria County Jail on Thursday on a warrant charging her with murder, according to booking records. She remained in custody Thursday night without bond.
Karina Wilson, who used to live with her grandparents next door to the Garcia family on Beck Road West, said the victim was a wonderful man and neighbor. He moved in with his family at 1053 Beck Road West in 2009, she said.
“After my grandpa passed, he would keep a close eye on my grandma and if she needed anything fixed right then, he would try his hardest,” she said. “He would (also) show up in the mornings with donuts and have coffee with my grandmother.”
Wilson said she will remember the victim as a creative and hard worker, who was a great parent and grandparent.
“(He) did whatever was needed for his kids and grandkids – loved them more than I think he loved himself,” she said.
Boyd said the sheriff’s office received a call about the alleged homicide about noon. No additional information about the investigation was available Thursday night.
