4 transported after crash involving a Victoria Transit bus

Four people were transported to a hospital Thursday after a vehicle crashed into a Victoria Transit bus at Sam Houston Drive and Leary Lane.

Two men, a woman, and a girl were transported to DeTar Hospital Navarro with injuries that were considered not life-threatening, said Abraham Ruiz, an officer with the Victoria Police Department.

The victims were aboard a northbound bus in the 2300 block of Sam Houston Drive when a Chevrolet pick up traveling west on Leary Lane, ran a red light and collided with the back right corner of the bus, Ruiz said.

The driver of the pick up, Erica Martinez, 19, said her brakes malfunctioned, Ruiz said.

“She knew the light was red and said she was trying to stop,” he said.

Martinez received citations for running a red light, driving without a driver’s license and with an unrestrained child under 8-years-old, Ruiz said.

The Victoria Police Department and Victoria Fire Department responded to the crash about noon.
