Getting out to vote

Blanche De Leon leaves the Victoria County Election Administrator's Office at Dr. Pattie Dodson Public Health Center after voting March 6. She said she waited in line about 30 minutes at the polling location that evening.

Voters have until April 23 to register to vote in the May 22 primary runoff, according to a news release from the Victoria County elections administrator’s office.

In that election, voters will get to pick their choice of which Republican or Democratic candidates who are vying to take the seat of former U.S. Rep. Blake Farenthold, who resigned last week. All registered voters in Victoria County can vote in the election.

People who voted in the March 6 primary election must vote for candidates of the same party – for example, people who voted in the Republican primary must vote in the Republican runoff. But people who didn’t vote in March can vote in either party’s election.

People can find forms to register to vote at VoteTexas.gov, which must be mailed with a postmark no later than April 23, according to the elections office. Victoria residents can also go to the elections office at 2805 N. Navarro St., Suite 500, to fill out an application; call 361-576-0124; or email elections@vctx.org.
