HARRY M. STELLMAN III VICTORIA - Harry Meyer Stellman III, age 80, passed away on October 23, 2018. He was born January 25, 1938 in Galveston to Harry Meyer Stellman, Jr. and Ray (Cox) Stellman. Following graduation from high school (1956) in Port Lavaca, Texas he attended Rice University from 1957 to 1961 to pursue a degree in Mechanical Engineering, later completing his studies at Louisiana State University. He joined the United States Navy in 1962, serving as an officer in the Civil Engineer Corps stationed in Guam and Saigon, achieving the rank of full lieutenant prior to his discharge in 1966. Following discharge from the Navy he returned to Port Lavaca and on December 23, 1967, married Carolyn Teel. They later had two children, Gillian and Harry Meyer IV (Pete). He worked for ALCOA in engineering and supervisory positions for over 35 years, during which time he was transferred to Perth, Australia; Maryville, Tennessee; Vancouver, Washington; and Mobile, Alabama before returning to Port Lavaca and later moving to Victoria, Texas after retirement. Even as a teenager he had a passion for cars--building, repairing, souping them up. Late in life he still enjoyed talking about his new '66 Stingray's engine swap and a later Corvette purchase he enjoyed working on. During time in Australia many years ago and before parenthood he traveled the world. He especially enjoyed visiting Hong Kong, Europe, Kenya, and Cambodia, taking all his bulky photography equipment to shoot beautiful photos along the way. All his life he had a deep appreciation for classical music and truly loved hearing a great pipe organ played well, while at Rice even leaving campus to hear rehearsals at a nearby church. He enjoyed astronomy--even teaching a summer session for GT students. After retirement he was an enthusiastic cook, fine-tuning his favorite family recipes and and striving toward the perfect roulade. He was a wonderful, caring husband but more than anything he was a loving, proud father and grandfather to his final days. Harry was preceded in death by his parents. He is survived by his wife Carolyn, daughter Gillian Domingue of Victoria, and son Harry Stellman IV of The Colony, Texas; his brothers Thomas (Mary Lou) and Richard (Kathy) Stellman of Port Lavaca, Texas; his five grandchildren: Meyer (Harry V), Davis, Calise, Kendall and Taryn, as well as many wonderful nephews and nieces. A celebration of life will be held at First United Methodist Church of Victoria at 11:00 AM November 3, 2018. In lieu of flowers, please send any donations in his honor to The Hospice of South Texas Dornburg Center for Compassion or First United Methodist Church of Victoria.
