PAUL GEORGE LEININGER
SHINER - Paul George Leininger, 89, passed away peacefully, Wednesday, January 11, 2017, with his family gathered in prayer around him. He was born April 27, 1927 in Clay County, Nebraska to the late George and Irene Sheedy Leininger.
He attended Conception Seminary then joined the United States Air Force and served as a second lieutenant in Japan during the Korean War Conflict. He met the love of his life in San Antonio and married Johnine Elder in 1954.
Paul obtained a degree in education from Hasting College in Nebraska, with a Master's degree in Education Administration and as a certified Guidance Counselor. He taught Latin, English, History, was an athletic director and a coach. He concluded his career of more than 40 years at Shiner and Hallettsville ISDs.
His great loves were for his Catholic faith and his family. Devoted to his faith, he started each day with daily Mass and ended each day, kneeling in prayer with his wife and children. The greatest legacy that Paul left his family is the gift of his Catholic faith, "an inheritance that is an eternal gift."
Survivors are his wife of 62 years, Johnine Leininger of Shiner; daughters, Kathleen Leininger of Shiner, Mary Jane Wenske (Mike) of Victoria, Elizabeth Ann Wenske (Ben) of Shiner, Patricia Miksch (Paul) of Austin, Therese Marcak (Andrew) of Shiner and Bernadette Fikac (Darren) of Shiner; sons, Paul Leininger of CA. , Mark Leininger (Raquel) of CA. and John Leininger; 42 grandchildren and 12 great-grandchildren; sister, Frances Ambrose; brothers, Dr. Bernard Leininger (Patty) and Jerry Sheedy (Joy).
Rosary 3 p.m., Sunday, January 15, 2017 at Thiele Cooper Funeral Home in Yoakum.
Funeral Mass 1 p.m., Monday, January 16, 2017 at Sts. Cyril & Methodius Catholic Church with Rev. Bob Knippenburg officiating. Burial to follow at St. Mary's Catholic Cemetery.
