Tradon Pollard

Occupation: Goliad Elementary School student

Hometown: Goliad

Why honored: I had the most amazing experience. I received a phone call one evening, and the lady said they were in my driveway and could I please come out. Well, I’ll have to say I was a bit terrified. Is it going to be another dog or puppy or maybe a kitten needing to be bottle fed, or perhaps a very injured animal? How was I going to say “no” again today?

Was I ever wrong in my tainted rescue assumptions.

There stood this beautiful lady, Terrie Moss, and a little boy dressed in his Cub Scout uniform. She said, “Tradon, explain what you’re fixing to do.” The young man started speaking so eloquently about how his Cub Scout leader, with Goliad Cub Scouts Pack 64, had asked all the kids to write down on a card what they would do if they had $10 to give away.

Tradon had won! His idea was to give the $10 to Goliad Pet Adoption so that many more animals that needed help would get help. He went on to explain how much he loved animals and how Goliad Pet Adoption was his favorite place ever! He said when it comes time for his Eagle Scout community project (mind you, he is in Cub Scouts), he plans to build more places so we can help more animals and build big yards for the dogs to run around and play and be more healthy and happy. He went on to tell me that when he becomes a Marine and gets a paycheck, he will donate lots of money to GPA so we can buy more land and have nice big buildings to make this an even better place for all the animals.

Tradon says one day he will teach his children about kindness to animals and helping and giving, because that’s how it spreads! (At this point, I could feel the tears welling up in my eyes, and I was fighting hard not to break down and cry.) Tradon Pollard, if you speak it, it will happen, my friend! He said giving that $10 to GPA made him feel so happy and hyper. He said it just made him feel so good inside!

I was profoundly humbled by this young man, Tradon Pollard. His determination and foresight, coupled with his kindness and gentle ways, are going to take him far in life and in our world, and everyone he meets will be impacted by his presence. He certainly made an impact on my life. Thank you, Tradon! And all our fur babies thank you, too!
