Everyday heroes: Dakota and Bethany Pompa

Bethany and

Dakota Pompa

Occupation: English teachers at Victoria West High School

Hometown: Victoria

Why honored: First things first, I want to thank my wife Bethany for being so amazing because this is the second year she’s been able to provide each of her students with a spiral or folder. She works so hard for everything she has, and with all that hard work in mind, she didn’t even hesitate to spend her money on her future students this year.

Second, I want to thank Target for providing an additional discount that also allowed me to do the exact same this year. Last year was my first year teaching at West High School, and I wasn’t able to buy many supplies at all for my students. I bought whatever I could afford on hourly summer job pay, but it wasn’t much. So I’m glad to say that I was also able to buy spirals for all of my future students this year!

Anyway, this is also for me to really say nice things about Victoria and VISD. There’s plenty of hate and animosity about the education system, but I’ll be the first to defend VISD. There are never as many passionate and caring people that would do anything for their students as there are when VISD comes together.

I’ve had the pleasure of meeting so many strong, wonderful teachers this last year that inspire me to be as amazing as they are every day. I love who I work for, and I love my students just the same.

The first kids to sit in front of me and deal with all of the first-year mistakes and mishaps will always mean the world to me. I’ve grown so much because I’ve had the pleasure of having just a few of your children as my students, and I can honestly say that I love Victoria, Texas, and I love the people here. I’m so excited to make this place my home, and I’m so excited to meet all of my new students this year!

Here’s to my second year at West, my second year in Victoria, and the time I get to spend teaching your children! I hope you’re all having an amazing summer. I can’t wait to meet you!
