Letters to the editor

Editor, the Advocate:

Liberty, a Gift of the Creator Alexander Hamilton (1755-1804), a Founding Father who co-wrote the Federalist Papers, stated concerning the nature of liberty:

The fundamental source of all your errors, sophisms, and false reasonings, is a total ignorance of the natural rights of mankind. Were you once to become acquainted with these, you could never entertain a thought that all men are not, by nature, entitled to a parity of privileges. You would be convinced that natural liberty is a gift of the beneficent Creator to the whole human race; and that civil liberty is founded in that and cannot be wrested from any people, without the most manifest violation of justice.

Never take our liberty for granted. I was born in 1944. My dad was in the Army, Battle of the Bulge, when I was a baby. He came back with several disabling wounds from battle. My wife and I are both WWII babies. My wife’s dad was in the Navy in the Pacific war front. My stepdad was also in the Navy in the Pacific war. On both sides of our families, we had seven uncles and four cousins in the military. Our grandson served with the Army in Afghanistan with the National Guard.

Thank our Lord Jesus Christ for America and the freedom we have. We must at all cost defend what God has given to us.

John Fisher, U.S. Navy veteran, Pastor Community Church, Point Comfort
