THUMBS-UP

I would like to give Elaine Wheat a big thumbs-up. Even though she is not feeling well, she still takes time to spread inspiration and good feelings through her Saturday column in the Victoria Advocate and her wonderful book “Oceans for Emotions.” Thank you, Elaine.

Thumbs-up to enjoying the exquisite tablescapes, delectable food, fashionable style show and fun atmosphere at the Victoria Symphony League’s event held Sept. 13 to benefit our Symphony. It was a great occasion!

Thumbs-up to utility companies improving safety measures and updating infrastructures to reduce the likelihood of gas- fueled explosions, like the recent catastrophic events in Massachusetts.

Pat, Victoria

Thumbs-up to progress being made at First Presbyterian Church of Victoria toward recovery from Hurricane Harvey. It is good to look upward in the fellowship hall and see the pristine, new ceiling tiles.

A hurricane may cause damage to our building but not to the spirit and mission of the ministry and members. Come see for yourself. Everyone is welcome!

Thumbs-up to caring pharmacy techs who ask if child-proof caps are necessary on prescription bottles. Elderly patients can find it extremely frustrating when they can’t open their meds.

Don, Victoria

Thumbs-up to Riverside Park. I drove through on Labor Day, and the park was manicured. Grass mowed, trash picked up, trash cans emptied and no trash around the cans on the ground. Thanks for doing a great job.

Deborah, Victoria

Thumbs-up to Victoria Symphony and sponsors for the Sawyer Brown concert Sept. 20. It was one of the best. We are new to the Victoria area and always look forward to the productions the symphony is putting on.

LaVerne, Victoria

Thumbs-up to Victoria Symphony for the delightful performance conducted by Darryl One on Sept. 15 at the Victoria Fine Arts Center. It was titled Cirque Goes to the Cinema!

The audience was treated to watching renowned acrobats, jugglers, gymnasts, dancers, illusionists, aerialists and strongmen as they appeared to work their magic choreographed to the symphony’s music. The musicians played familiar selections from movies such as “West Side Story,” “Pirates of the Caribbean” and “Raiders of the Lost Ark.” Just grand!

Thumbs-up to the wonderful concert Choral Celebration, featuring the Victoria College Choir, Victoria Civic Chorus and Victoria East and West High School choirs last Monday at the Welder Center. If you did not attend this concert, you missed a truly beautiful evening’s entertainment. Our community is blessed to have these very talented young people and adults that graciously share their talent with our community. Many thanks to all members of the choirs and those in charge for organizing this free event.

Janet, Victoria

THUMBS-DOWN

Thumbs-down to robocalls now accounting for half of all calls being placed. No wonder people don’t want to answer their phones!
