Thumbs-Up, Thumbs-Down

THUMBS-UP

Thumbs-up to the Victoria Advocate Editorial Board for the concise and visionary editorial of Sunday’s paper Jan. 6.

Anne, Victoria

Thumbs-up to the Advocate for running Elaine Wheat’s columns for another year. She will be missed, indeed!

John, Victoria

Thumbs-up and thank you to 4-year-old Cali Garcia for singing “Happy Birthday Jesus” at the First Baptist Church Christmas program in Victoria. Thanks also to Dennis and the church music ministry. I wish everyone could hear this little girl with a big voice.

Ray, Victoria

Thumbs-up to ESPN and college football for allowing TV viewers to see our great flag and sing our National Anthem during the football championship game.

Ray, Victoria

Thumbs-up to the Victoria Advocate for the Dec. 27 article on “Street Smarts” and how the new Placido Benavides Drive got its name. It was quite interesting from an historical viewpoint also to see the story behind Moody, Juan Linn, Ben Jordan and other major thoroughfares in Victoria.

Thanks for the pics of all the people for whom these roads were named!

Mary Ann, Moulton

From the Advocate Editorial Board

Thumbs-up to the Pilot Club for hosting the 29th annual Bridal Showcase that attracted between 500 and 700 attendees. The showcase allows vendors to show the latest trends for weddings from cakes to gowns.

Thumbs-up to Kenneth and Eveline Bethune for opening Coastal Bend Distilling Co. in Beeville.

Thumbs-up to Outlaw Pass for hosting Bloomington students who were learning about local business models.

Thumbs-up to the owners of Ace Hardware and Anytime Fitness for opening stores in Yoakum and adding value to the community.

THUMBS-DOWN

Thumbs-down to “I wanna be King Donald” for shutting down “our” government. And yes, each of us will be affected by the shutdown.
