Thumbs-up to the sheriff’s department for their dedicated enforcement of all laws and cooperation with all immigration enforcers.

Thumbs-up to the Five Points Museum for the “Food for Thought” short plays.
Thumbs-up to Adrian Cannady’s new position as head of economic development in Temple. While I see his leaving Victoria as a huge loss for us, it is a well-deserved promotion which recognizes his many talents and abilities in this field.
Thumbs-up to Fossati’s Delicatessen for a wonderful birthday celebration. My daughter and friend came from Hempstead. They had heard about Fossati’s on TV and wanted to see it. It was a very special celebration. Fossati’s was great, the staff was so nice and the history behind the place was great. Thanks, Fossati’s!
Thumbs-up to the Grand Theater in Yoakum for offering free movies through Sept. 6, with the exception of Tuesday and Wednesday. The address is 212 W. May St. The plan is to celebrate the theater’s success with people from the surrounding area.
Thumbs-up to the three men who helped me in the Walmart parking lot this past week. They stopped in the heat of the day to help me with my stalled car. Thank you!
Thumbs-down to the 37 deaths of children in the United States this summer due to their being left in cars that got too hot.
Thumbs-down to supervisors who are just concerned with the bottom line instead of their employees’ welfare.
I understand selling door to door is not a promising career, and I for one could not do it. When folks (young or old) try to better themselves, I understand. Last Saturday, we were under a heat advisory, and it was about 105. Two young men were in the neighborhood selling security systems. Both sat in the shade waiting for lunch. Finally, hamburgers with small fries were delivered. They got the third-degree on how to sell before they were handed the burgers. They were not given a drink, not even water. I saw this and immediately took them two cold waters. I told them they needed to find better jobs. They both politely thanked me and said they agreed.
Thumbs-down to fraternity hazing. Alcohol-fueled hazing often gets out of control and can turn deadly. It proves absolutely nothing of value and can ruin some lives and end others.
Thumbs-down to relaxing as though we have survived the 2018 hurricane season. The Atlantic weather map is showing signs of those reds, oranges and yellows that indicate hurricane possibilities. It’s too early to heave a sigh of relief. It’s never too early to have a plan in mind.
