Thumbs-Up, Thumbs-Down

Thumbs-Up, Thumbs-Down

Thumbs-up to Victoria Advocate employees Martha, Bridget, Rena and Devin for their assistance in the delivery of my daily newspaper. And to my carrier, a big thumbs-up. Thank you. Delivery placement was spot on!

Brenda, Victoria

Thumbs-up to Trains Magazine, whose October issue features photos from Greta, Placedo, Guadalupe, Ganado and other area locations.

Henry, Victoria

Thumbs-up to democracy, a government by the people, for the people and of the people. It simply must be based on truth. Lies just don’t work.

Ben, Victoria

Thumbs-up to the growing numbers of whooping cranes. From near extinction to now over 500 of these beautiful birds borders on the miraculous. Whooping cranes are the tallest birds in North America. They are white with red caps and black wing tips. They have long, pointed bills. Their name comes from the whooping sound they make. Boating excursions to view whooping cranes can be arranged in Rockport.

Pat, Victoria

Thumbs-up to Senator John McCain’s civility, courage, patriotism and bipartisanship. He was an exceptional man.

Joseph, Victoria

Thumbs-up to hearing the ringing phone and seeing that the caller is a friend – not someone telling me the warranty on my car is about to expire.

Dorothy, Victoria

Thumbs-up to First Presbyterian Church of Victoria for the church bulletins given to participants attending Sunday morning worship services. These well designed programs facilitate the service by including the printed wording of prayers and scripture readings, as well as congregational responses. Being able to read the wording while hearing it reinforces the messages and makes them more memorable. Also, this allows anyone with a degree of hearing loss to understand what is being said.

All are welcome at First Presbyterian Church. Sunday services begin at 10:30 a.m. at 2408 N. Navarro St. If you have questions, the church office number is 361-575-2441.

Ann, Victoria

H is for handling stress through relaxation.

I is for interacting with others.

E is for exercising at least several times a week.

L is for learning new information and ways of doing things.

D is for diet that is similar to the Mediterranean plan.

Richard, Victoria

Thumbs-up to the Quilt Guild of Greater Victoria for adopting the Victoria Public Library as a community service project. This year during the library’s book sale Sept. 10-15, there will be a fundraiser silent auction of quilts. Two good things are being combined.

Kathy, Victoria

Thumbs-up to the prison reform legislation that has passed the House and is facing Senate approval. It would allow judges more sentencing options. Prisons are overcrowded, and violent career criminals are taking opportunities to influence less dangerous inmates. Too many return to prison following their release.

Richard, Victoria

Thumbs-down to putting glass, pizza boxes, plastic bags or plastic items numbered 3-7 in the green and yellow trash bins for recycling. These items aren’t approved for the recycling program in Victoria.

Bob, Victoria

Thumbs-down to perpetuating wrongdoing by covering it up.

Carl, Victoria
