Thumbs-up and a big thank-you to Joey Gregory, Dallas Franklin and Delia Kolar for your help in making the Education Foundation of Calhoun County’s annual fundraiser a big success. This organization benefits our teachers and students with grants and scholarships. Lord bless this group with continued success.

Thumbs-up to the young lady who graduated from the Juvenile Justice Center in Victoria on Thursday with her high school diploma she thought she would never earn. And she said she felt like a new person! If I can do it, anybody can do it! I’m glad you have the opportunity now to see your dream.
Thumbs-up to Josef Halepaska and Ann Stout for their refreshing, upbeat letters to the editor in Friday’s Advocate.
Thumbs-up to the hope that Victoria might get an updated IHOP like one I visited in Alice. It is new, attractive and huge with a large parking lot. Alice has a population of only 20,000.

Thumbs-up to the Victoria County Veterans Council for organizing the ceremony for Victorians to honor military heroes on Memorial Day.
Thumbs-up to all the graduates who worked hard and earned scholarship awards.
Thumbs-up to the Victoria school district for sponsoring the Seamless Summer Food Service Programs that ensures children will receive high-quality meals during the summer.
Thumbs-up to the Texas Parks and Wildlife Department and the Lavaca-Navidad River Authority for constructing structures for fish in Lake Texana.
Thumbs-up to the Riding Therapy Center for its three decades of service for those with disabilities.
Thumbs-down to the vandalism that took place over in Memory Gardens of Edna Cemetery earlier this month. We have very extensive damage made by a person or persons to our Arbor where funeral services take place. It saddens us that someone would do this to us. Being a nonprofit cemetery, we will have to pay for the damages done to our beautiful Arbor since no one has been caught.

Thumbs-down to disrespect. I went to a local store shopping Sunday wearing my veteran’s hat and not one single person acknowledged it. When I was checking out, the checker was rushing me. When our sale was complete, I explained to him to never rush old people, especially old veterans.
