Thumbs-Up, Thumbs-Down

THUMBS-UP

Thumbs-up to Katherine Pope’s column on her safari/mission trip to Africa. It was very interesting and informative to know that this type of trip exists. Also, thanks for the gardening columns!

Mary Ann, Moulton

Thumbs-up to the private owners of the magical Lighted Christmas Park display located on Mallette Drive. How splendid to share their work and Christmas spirit with Victoria and the surrounding towns. We have only to drive by and gasp in awe and pleasure.

Shirley, Victoria

Thumbs-up to City of Victoria Solid Waste Deptartment Supervisor, Frank Luna for straightening out a big mix-up regarding gray can and yard waste pick up.

Donna, Victoria

From the Advocate Editorial Board

Thumbs-up to Grit Camp at Victoria East High School that helped more than 80 students practice study skills for math, science and English midterms.

Thumbs-up for the new basketball court coming to Bloomington as part of a $7,500 grant. The court will be named for community leader E.E. Hatchett, an educator at a black public school in the community during segregation.

Thumbs-up to Cuero’s Jordan Whittington who will join most of the nation’s top 100 senior players at the Jan. 5 All-American Bowl at the Alamodome in San Antonio. Whittington is the first Cuero player to be selected for the game, which debuted in 2000.

THUMBS-DOWN

Thumbs-down to restaurant lunch customers, who when finished eating, will continue to sit and visit, being oblivious to the many additional customers standing and waiting for an available table. Very discourteous.

Shirley, Victoria

Thumbs-down to car racing on Navarro Street, in the area of Lowe’s and Walgreens, thereby endangering many safe drivers in the same location. I wonder why I witness this often, but the police are not monitoring such outrageous activity.

Paul, Victoria

Thumbs-down to the sad realization that some of the stores that have recently announced plans to close, have in the past, displayed a severe lack of customer assistance. If no personal assistance is offered while standing in a store, one might then elect to just shop online.

May, Victoria

Thumbs-down to no playoff games at Memorial Football Stadium. Games played all around us. What a loss to the community. What a shame.

Bobby, Victoria
