City Council member Jeff Bauknight as well as former council member Emett Alvarez have filed to run for mayor alongside David Crook in the July special election.

Bauknight, 51, filed for a position on the ballot Sunday after winning his reelection campaign for the District 3 City Council seat Saturday night.

PLEASE remember how Bauknight thought we didn't deserve help in Victoria for COVID and how he wanted to "skip" adding sidewalks to streets that legally had to have them. He doesn't care about Victorians, only money in his pocket.

Jeff is a good man. I'm not surprised that you have decided to go after his character. Policies are up for grabs. He does a lot for the community that he does not self promote. Just because he does not want to spend money like congress, does not make him heartless. Feel free to vote against, encourage others, and educate others on policies. I my opinion. Otherwise, do as you wish.

I remember Bauknight wanting a card entry to our public library to keep the homeless out.... preventing them a break from the heat. He also wanted a credit card on file to pay for potential library fines.

Good points. One does need to pay fees though. Not a fan of late fees, but after x amount of time, pay for replacement

His character is on display without me "going for it". He's heartless and only cares about Victoria's finances and rich residents, not the PEOPLE who make up the city. Plenty of people have anecdotes about his lack of human empathy, I can only hope that will come out in the election. He's not a worthy replacement for McCoy.

It's all good to me. Call him as you wish. I counter with the fact as a person as I know him, he is not a heartless human being. I understand your frustration with the issues.

Perhaps he should get to know everyone in town, then, so he doesn't treat them as poorly as he does. If it requires knowing him personally to see that he's a good person, then maybe he's not a good choice to lead a bunch of people he doesn't know personally.

Why did Bauknight even run for city council, if he was going to run for mayor?

Grace Butler

Because he wants power, despite what form it takes.

To keep the seat fiscally conservative.
