The Sisters of the Incarnate Word and Blessed Sacrament announced five years ago that they were selling their historic 44,000-square-foot Nazareth Convent in Victoria.
On Monday, which marks the 154th anniversary of the foundation of the order of sisters, they announced at a news conference that the 115-year-old convent, 105 W. Church St., had been sold to St. Mary’s Catholic Church for an undisclosed amount.
I pray you did not borrow money for this, but my inclination is that you did. You will now be asking for donations for a building, while people are struggling. I understand the mentality of “the poor will always be with us.” On top of that, buying something that is going to need around 2 million in renovations, I learned that from an investor from Houston who looked at it, is unwise. You have a rectory with offices. You have a CCD building with a church hall. You have a facility with a basketball court. Looking at the website and bulletin, and having attended there, what you do not have is the disuse to change the block, as to say. Imagine all the good that could have been done. When our churches out priorities over buildings, then the government is forced to help the poor. I will leave you with a few Bible versus I hold close to my heart.

“Undisclosed amount.” The people who put money in that basket need honesty sir.
Mr. Fuchs,
