CUERO — Dozens of spectators endured Saturday’s 100-degree heat and lined East Main Street with one question on their minds — which turkey will be the fastest?

Many flocked to Downtown Cuero to see ‘test runs’ of two hand-picked turkeys competing for the legendary title of Ruby Begonia, a name bestowed on the turkey that will compete against Paycheck, a turkey from Worthington, Minn., in a nearly half-century battle for the title of “Turkey Capital of the World.”
